Update 8/8 5PM: Bad News again. Turns out they recovered a different scooter that had my paperwork (title/registration) in it. False alarm. I’m still walkin’.
Update 8/7 7AM: Good news. Scooter has been recovered in Camden NJ. It’s currently in the impound, I’ll find out what condition it’s in tomorrow at 9am. Thanks to everyone for your support!
This is a story of a first world problem. But I’m still asking for your help.
Last night, somebody stole the orange Vespa I’d had for less than 3 months from in front of my apartment at 4th and Bainbridge.
This sucks, of course, and I’m doing all of the things I’m “supposed” to do. I’ve filed my insurance claim and police report. But I’m not expecting to get my scooter back.
From what I’d heard, I’m not alone – a bunch of scooters have been lifted in the last couple of months. I asked and confirmed with the officer: another Vespa was stolen last night not far from where mine was taken.
So I have two things I’m asking for your help with:
1. If you see my scooter, email me: [email protected]
The cops have bigger fish to fry so I’m not expecting a whole lot of their attention. But my friends in Philadelphia – and I’m lucky to have many all over the city – I ask for you to be my eyes. Please share this with your friends. If anybody sees an orange Vespa with scratches along the right side, a chipped right mirror, and a dangling left turn signal (sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?) email me where you saw it and when. [email protected].
I removed the license plate from this photo because it was the previous owner’s plate from the day I bought it.
2. If your scooter was stolen in Philly recently too, email me: [email protected]
Especially if the thefts happen in different districts, the cops don’t seem particularly aware of the pattern. I’m willing to pull together some map information about locations, times, and dates of thefts to help them catch the thieves.
If you have any information you’re willing to share, comment on this post or email me. I’ll update the map below.

Thanks in advance.
