another reason my blackberry kicks ass

our comcast modem took a dive this afternoon, leaving us with a couple of open wifi networks that barely provide enough bandwidth to check email. luckily, my blackberry pearl can be a bluetooth tethered modem for my macbook pro, providing me with a slow but stable internet connection, surprisingly better than the wifi that I was on.

Until the iPhone can do this, I’m going to have a really hard time making it my primary phone. I still want one, though :-) .

Hey Alex, you can now use the iPhone EDGE connection as a proxy for any device – check it out: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/25/tether-your-iphone-to-get-online-with-edge/

Ps. Forgot to mention – Im gonna try this later today – but agre – this is the reason I still carry my nokia N70 around in my bag with me (besides Flash Lite content) its so easy to use over bluetooth when I cant get wifi for my powerbook. Really hope this is something they plan on doing oficially in an update.

Data plans are so expensive in Canada that it would be impossible to use a Blackberry like that for us.

Last time I checked, 2 megs of transfer was around $50 with Rogers (yes, 2 megabytes, 50 bucks!!!) Just imagine surfing YouTube for a couple of hours at that price… ouch!

I guess we’re still in the stone age…
